chocolate

You can drink it ,and you can cook with it. You can even make buildings, dresses and hats out of it. You can give it to somebody as a present, or you can buy it for yourself. And of course you can eat it. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate , white chocolate, chocolates with gold on the outside-everybody loves chocolate. Follow its story, from the forests of Central America hundreds of years ago, through Africa, Europe, and the United States. I was surprised that Switzerland is the country that eats chocolate most!! I was also surprised that chocolates were used like a currency. I was able to understand the history of chocolate.

The most interesting metaphor

The most interesting metaphor from the game that we played is "my life in America was like a jack-in-the-box". Mr. Atsusi said this metaphor. The reason for saying this metaphor is that he lived in America when he was an elementary school student. In his life in America, there were lots of surprises. In addition, it was a very enjoyable life for him. Therefore, he compared his life in America to a jack-in-the-box. I heard this word for the first time, so I thought this metaphor was very interesting. I would like to live my life like that.

But if it hits the island of San Fernendez, many thousandz of people will die.  This book's model is Haiti . They make calm judgments and fulfill a big role. Black Beauty

イメージ
When Black Beauty is traind to carry a rider on his back, or to pull a carrige behind him, he finds it hard at first. But he is lucky - his first home is a good one, where his owners are kind people, who would never be cruel to a horse.   This story is set in the 19th century. Therefore, a horse is a substitute for a bicycle or a motorbike.   I thought that if I gently touched animals, I could make friends with it.   I thought that the person dealing badly about the horse was terrible. Sewell, Anna (2000) Oxford: Oxford Bookworms Library

The Eagle of the Ninth

イメージ
In the second century AD, when the Ninth Roman Legion marcher inti the mists of northern Britain, not one man came back. Four thousand men disappeared, and the Eaglr, the symbol of the Legion's honour, was lost.   There were puzzles, there were actions and it was fun. In addition, c haracters were individual, so I was drawn into the writer's vision to the world. I recommend this book because the amount of characters is large but easy to read. Sutcliff, Rosemary (2000) Oxford : Oxford Bookworms Library

Little Women

イメージ
At Christmas the four March girls decide that they will all try hard to be good, and never ti be cross, or lazy, or selfish again. Meg, the oldest, won't complain about her job or not having pretty dresses. Jo won't argue and get angry and run wild like a boy. Shy Beth will try hard to be braver, and little Amy will think less of herself and more of other people. They don't always succeed, of course, and sometimes there are arguments and secrets and angry tears. But there is also laughter and fun, and soon a new friend Laurie, the rich and lonely boy next door.    They are the happiest girls in America. They are lonely because their father is participating in the Civil War, as  father are proud of their daughters when they come back home, they are trying to make a good girl. Five children and it

イメージ
It was a strange little thing. -fat and furry, and with eyes on long stalks. It was often very cross and unfriendly, but it could give wishes on wish a day.  There are many stories with fairies granting wishes, but I have never read a story which does not go well like this. It was funny with an ending with reverberations. In addition, the fairy in this book is looks like monster. I can't see this as a fairy. Nesbit. Edith (2000) Oxford: Oxford Bookworms Library

Who, Sir? Me, Sir?

イメージ
His real name was Rossiter, but when someone spoke to him, he always said,"Who? Me?", so everyone called him "Hoomey"      Today I introduce this book. In this book, Sam.Sylvester want them to have ambitions and resolutions. Therefore, he suggested to paticipate in sport competition. For the first time, thay said that we can not do. However, they made effort to do. This book  is an inspirational book in which the students who were reluctant at first were gradually and more subjective, drawing a state of raising rich emotions. But the king is now a prisoner in the castle of Zenda. Who will rescue him from his enemies, the dangerous Duke Michael and Rupert of Hentzau?. The hero of in this novel was very attractive, because he has a strong sence of justice.  The custom of the time in England is written in detail in this book. The Canterville ghost has great plans to frighten the life out of the Otis family. But Americans don't frighten easily. This book was written by Oscar.Wild who was a poet of the 19th century. The girl appearing on this story was very kind to the ghost and I was attracted this girl. There are many nice scenes so please read it. Wild. Oscar (2003) Oxford: Oxford Bookworms Library

What kind of people lived in New York at the beginning of the twentieth centry? Are New Yorkers different now from a hundred years ago? Christmas in prague

In a house in Oxford three people are having breakfast-Carpl, her husband Jan, and his father Josef. They are talking about Prague, because Carol wants them all to go there for Christmas. Josef wasa born in Prague, but he left his home city when he was a young man. He is an old man now, and he would like to see Prague again before he dies. But he is afraid. He still remembers another Christmas in Prague, many long years ago- a Christmas that changed his life for ever...       I was surprised first 2 sentences. This book quotes the tragedy of Prague, so you can study about this tragedy by reading this book. Hannam.Joyce (2002) Oxford: Oxford Bookworms Library

Mary queen of scots

イメージ
England and Scotland in the 1500s. Two famous queens- Mary, the Catholic Queen of scots, and Elizabeth 1, the Protestant Queen of England. It was an exciting and a dangerous time to be alive, and to be a queen. Mary was Queen of Scotland when she was one week old. At sixteen, she was also Queen of France. She was tall and beautiful, with red-gold hair. Many men loved her and died for her. But she also had many enemies- men who said:'The death of Mary is the life of Elizabeth.'      This story is non-fiction story. I thoroughly enjoyed this historical biography of Mary, Queen of Scots. I had been studying about Mary in my high school classes,  I wanted to know more about the facts. So, this book was interesting for me. Vicary, Tim (2003) Oxford, Oxford Bookworms library

Marilla Cuthbert and her brother Matthew want to adopt on orphan, to help on the farm at Green Gables. They ask for a boy, but they get Anne, who has red hair and freckles, and who talks and talks. They didn't want a girl, but how can they send a child back, like an unwanted parcel? So Anne stays, and begins a new life in the sleepy, quiet village of Avonlea in Canada. But it is not so quiet after Anne comes on life there...      The impressin of reading this book is that red hair is disliked in this era of books. Anne received bullies due to that.  I want to know whether red hair would be disliked evcen in contemporary. I read this book for the first time, but it was interesting. The jungle book

イメージ
In the jungle of Southern India the Seeonee Wolf-Pack has a new cub. He is not a wolf- he is Mowgli, a human child, but he knows nothing of the world of men. He lives and hunts with his brothers the wolves. Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther are his friends and teachers. And shere Khan, the man-eating tiger, is his enemy.      I have heard this book name, but i have never read it. Mowgli is a human, but  he was raised by wolves. So he was not able to live on human world.      He knew that the lion was going to eat herself, so he have defeated the lion. However  the villagers feared him. I was sorry because he was having no place to return. Kipling.Rudyard (2000) Oxford. Oxford Bookworms Library

Because he liked small animated girls I did not start with the illustration of this book until the end ... The only thing that comes to mind is the scenes I saw on TV. Everyone in Jojo's village is dead, and ten-year-old Jojo is alone.           This is a sad story. At the beginning of this story, everyone in Jojo's village was dead, expect Jojo. In addition, Jojo was only ten yeras old, so he didn't know what to do. A few days later, two mans helped Jojo and taken Jojo to facility. The two mans are NGO staff. One day, Jojo thoght that why they do not attack enemy. It can not be helped ,because Jojo was only ten. He was pure.      At the end of story, It was written that "Now I have a gun and I'm a man". BR1-10 The Elephant Man

イメージ
He is not beautiful. His mother does not want him, children run away from him. People laugh at him, and call him 'The Elephant Man'.  The Elephant Man" is based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London. A horribly deformed young man, who has been a freak attraction in traveling side shows, is found abandoned and helpless and is admitted for observation to Whitechapel, a prestigious London.  Under the care of a famous young doctor, Merrick changes from a sensational object of pity to the urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati. But his belief that he can become a man like any other is a dream never to be realized.  It's so heartbreaking and depressing. This story as it is was really sad and compelling. Vicary. Tim (1989) Oxford: Oxford University Press
